Implementing a persistent chime in addition to the pink LED halo light for when a device is not logged into could provide users with clear, intuitive feedback.
Another option to consider would be integrating a vibration feedback once the network is restored and device is ready to be logged into again.
Our network connectivity has been inconsistent, resulting in users being disconnected without realizing it. When this occurs, their Vocera badge displays a flashing pink halo light to indicate they have been logged out due to network loss. However, because the badge is worn on the chest and below the user’s line of sight, this visual alert often goes unnoticed.
This lack of awareness recently contributed to a safety incident where an employee attempted to press the panic button for assistance, only to be prompted to log in first.
Recommendation:
To improve user awareness and prevent similar incidents, we suggest implementing a persistent audio or tactile alert—such as a recurring chime or vibration—in addition to the flashing halo light. While the badge currently emits a single chime upon reconnecting to the network, pairing an audible alert or vibration with the LED indicator would make it more apparent when a user has been logged out or has not logged in at the start of their shift.
