When a badge has handset mode enabled, there is an icon displayed on the screen of the badge. The group mode setting has no such visual indication that it is enabled. The only way a user (who has forgotten he/she enbabled the mode) would know that group mode is enabled is by traversing the menu on the badge and viewing the status of the group mode setting.
